Seeing the White Sox win the World Series was icing on the cake for students at Marmion Academy in Aurora. The South Siders' 200 home runs last season gifted the prep school with a $20,000 donation from Wiseman-Hughes as part of the annual "Home Run Call,"a White Sox and ESPN promotion. Sponsor, Wiseman-Hughes Enterprises, upped the ante over the last year donating $100 per home run to the Aurora high school.
"We're grateful to Jim Hughes and his company for their contributions to Marmion," said Father Charles Rechenbacher, OSB, Marmion's director of development. "Of course, we are also grateful for the success of the Chicago White Sox who indirectly contributed with every home run."
This year's donation will be used in similar fashion as 2004, with the funds going to the Student Financial Assistance Program, helping needy and deserving young men attend Marmion. Wiseman-Hughes is closely familiar with Marmion, whose alumni include three company partners: James Hughes Jr.; Michael Hughes, and Sean Hughes. James Hughes Sr. served on the school's board of directors for many years.
