Lily Simpson, age 10, dug deep in her pockets, emptying them to buy all the raffle tickets she could to win a little girl's dream, a backyard playhouse. Her generous efforts not only helped her win the grand prize, but also helped contribute $1,155 to Wally Thurow, former local Sycamore resident and founder of the town's Pumpkin Festival. Mr. Thurow lost nearly everything from the damages of Hurricane Katrina last fall.
Wiseman-Hughes built and donated the giant playhouse to be used as a parade float and raffle prize during Sycamore's annual Pumpkin Festival. Today, the playhouse sits in Lily's backyard as a reminder of the American Dream, a new home, big or small.
