"Who gets a house?" said Taunacy Horton. "It's just us. So overwhelming," she said as she dabbed her tear-filled eyes. "I'm just a small town girl from Idaho and he's (Josh) just a dad. We're just an ordinary family with extraordinary circumstances."

Wiseman-Hughes' commitment to "Making Home Happen" certainly rang true as they gave Josh and Taunacy Horton a brand new $450,000 home.

"I spoke with my partners and we all eagerly agreed to donate this home," said Jim Hughes, executive vice president of Wheaton-based Wiseman-Hughes. "It was just the right thing to do for a family who has served our country so willingly and bravely."

Located in Oswego at Ashcroft, the 3,500- square-foot home features 6 bedrooms, 4-1/2 baths, and a 4-car garage.

Wiseman-Hughes enlisted the willing help of many long time trade partners to finish the home in just four short weeks. The home had to be customized to meet the needs of a family with two young children and four infants.

"It needed double everything," commented Jim Hughes. "Double dishwashers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, and freezers."

The kitchen was transformed; workers installed an eight-foot island suited for four high chairs, a second refrigerator and pantry to replace the butler's pantry. Also, a sun room was transformed into a breakfast area. Corian counter tops and back splashes, hardwood floors, new faucets, and additional cabinetry were added.

Working like squirrels burying their nuts before the winter freeze, trade partners lived up to the Wiseman-Hughes commitment of "Making Home Happen." In record time, the extensive make over was ready to accommodate the Horton brood. A big assist came from Village of Oswego officials, who conducted four inspections in one day to meet the tight deadline.

"Everyone wanted to help, it truly was amazing," Hughes said. "People knew this was something special and worked overly hard to make it happen. It's very humbling and rewarding at the same time."

Wiseman-Hughes and the Horton's new home were featured on the Arts & Entertainment Network (A&E), which filmed the events leading up to the turnover of the Horton's new home for a special holiday program "At Home with the Brave," which aired in December last year.

For Taunacy Horton... "This home has brought us peace and taken the worry out of the day."
